Forecast for the Week of December 18th - 24th, 2022

Theme of the week:

Burst now, if you want to bloom.

If you've been working on clarifying the values that guide and drive you, then by now you're plenty clear about what you would change if you could. The last few weeks haven't exactly provided the conditions for making those changes though.

But this week does.

Jupiter moves into Aries. The Solstice comes, and the New Moon in Capricorn too. Yes, there are things that will need to be revisited – Mercury will return to this territory in the first weeks of 2023 (and will station retrograde again in Capricorn in December 2023).

No need to try and predict the future, or base your decision on impossible to know future results or outcomes. Just be reasonably assured you're acting from a place of integrity and do your due diligence to ensure what you're doing isn't inherently or implicitly harmful to yourself or others.

Beyond that? Be alert and observant – and be prepared to learn.

The Good:

A mf'ing burst of energy!

A claymation animation of a viking fox riding a rocket through space that says that says "to the Moon."
Blast off to the Moon!

Jupiter's move into Aries, along with the Solstice and Capricorn New Moon bring a pronounced influx of energy to the cardinal signs. Getting started should come a bit easier now.

With wind in your sails and your motor revvin' now is the time to take those brave and courageous steps.

I'll say more about Jupiter in Aries in the coming days and weeks, but for now just now that Jupiter in Aries favors taking bold steps out into the unknown.

So just go for it – you're strong enough to do the scary thing. You're smart enough to keep yourself safe. You're wise enough to know the difference between fear and danger.

IMHO, you got this.

The Meh:

Mercury will be coming back to these degrees of the zodiac in the weeks ahead and early in the new year.

Do your due diligence and triple check your communications, accounting, and logistics. Then, extend yourself grace, compassion, and humor (Mercury rules pranks) about whatever typos, mistakes, or other hijinks inevitably comes to pass.

If you'd like to work with the magic of Mercury's retrogrades, you can book a Mercury Retrograde reading with Bear between now and Wednesday January 4th, 2023.

The Oh Fuck Me*:

Monday and Tuesday might be emotionally potent and tender. Be gentle with yourself.

The snap crackle and pop in the astro atmosphere might make restful sleep a bit of a challenge for those inclined toward insomnia or with the kind of active dreamscapes that leave you feeling psychically tired in the morning – especially on Friday and Saturday.

*please note: "oh fuck me" is Bear's way of subverting the normalization of conventional beauty standards. He's not at all suggesting these outcomes are guaranteed, or that everyone is going to experience these undesirable manifestations of the astroweather. Rather, that in the RPG of life, these would be the chaotic evil playthrough version of the same energies described by the good and the meh.

Week in a Walnut Shell

(please pardon the pun)

Week in (wal)Nut Shell:

A crest in the wave, the shift in the tides, the turning of the wheel... a big pivot. Jupiter moves into Aries on Tuesday and the Moon becomes new in Capricorn on Friday.

What are you ready to change? Initiate? Begin to end?

Sunday: final preparations.
Monday: proactive integration.
Tuesday: a surge of energy.
Wednesday: it's go time!
Thursday: relational innovations.
Friday: renewal.
Saturday: pragmatics (and presumptions).

Read on for a break-down of each day's transits for what to expect and how to work with the energies of the week-ahead.

Sunday the 18th

Sunday has a very last chance dance feeling to it. All of the Moon's aspects are closing ones and the Moon's light is waning too.

💡
Sunday night is the last night of Jupiter - the last of Jupiter's planetary days/nights with Jupiter in the sign of Pisces.

Use this night for connecting to vision, hope, imagination, your dreams, and whatever constitutes a 'higher power' or 'universal force' to you.

Sunday night is the last of Jupiter's planetary days/nights with Jupiter in the sign of Pisces.

While Jupiter does have triplicity in Aries (and is the leader of the nocturnal fiery triplicity), we won't see Them of the Thundering Thighs at home in a watery sign until Jupiter arrives into their exaltation in Cancer in the year

In the weekly astrology weather forecast I gave for Astrology Hub, Sunday the 18th was the last day of the week. It was this day in part, that made me give the 12th through the 18th the theme of "ready set go!"

Today is a day that's about gathering your hopes, and whatever other resources you may need in order to establish a foundation for what's to come next.

Early AM (midnight - 08:00, PST):

3:30 am - the Moon at 21° Libra trines Saturn at 21° Aquarius

Steady as it Goes

The Moon's trine to Saturn brings with it the an attunement of the senses to principles like longevity, balance, proportion, and stability. From artistic aesthetics to relational dynamics this energy is broadly applicable.

This morning's trine from the Moon to Saturn highlights the need for discernment. It also brings with it a bit of ease in integrated whatever storyline coincides with the dates mentioned below.

Think back to the following dates (click the dates to see read that week's Skyvibe Serial):

The Moon's trine to Saturn is part of the winding down of the cycle that began on November 28th.

Midday (08:00 - 16:00, PST):

2:02pm - the Moon at 26° Libra sextiles the Sun at 26° Sagittarius
2:35 pm - the Moon at 27° Libra squares Pluto at 27° Capricorn

Keen Perceptions

The Moon's closing sextile to the Sun precedes the waning crescent phase by a day or so, but the energic signature remains, for all intents and purposes, the same. There's a winding down, a closing up, and a "putting to bed" quality to this particular relationship between the luminaries.

The Moon in a cardinal sign brings a quick catalyzing or fast-acting dynamic while the Sun's mutable energy is keyed to the movement of dissipation and change. As we prepare for the Capricorn solstice and the Sun's Southern turning, or pivot, we find the lunar cycle too is preparing for a rebirth in sync with the changing of the length of day.

What rhythms of yours are shifting?

Late PM (16:00 - midnight, PST):

7:30 pm - the Moon moves into Scorpio

Relational Hygiene

The Moon makes no Ptolemaic aspect with any traditional planet, though there is a sextile to the asteroid Hygeia.

The Sun Surmises:

The hopes and dreams you've nursed and tended throughout Jupiter's journey through Pisces have the potential to fortify you through the ferocious pace of the first few months of 2023.

You can't know what you don't know, or how things will turn out. But you can know why you're aiming for the things that you are in the first place. That's actually a fucking excellent start.

Monday the 19th

Venus squares Chiron but rests on the Point of Thales, relative to the Nodes. This point – a place sextile to one part of an opposition and trine the other – is one that presents an opportunity for integration, generally speaking. In this particular instance we're talking about integration coming through the Venusian sphere or means – so relationships, but also art, beauty, and things that are beautiful and pleasurable.

The integration is of the core tension illustrated by the Nodes of the Moon, that of craving and desire (the North Node) and aversion or hatred – i.e., rejection – symbolized by the South Node.

I talked a bit about Venus in Capricorn in the year ahead forecast for 2022 (yes, you read that right) that I presented for the San Francisco Astrological Society; the fact that Venus opened 2022 in Capricorn in the midst of a retrograde cycle, and is now ending the year back in Capricorn gives this quality to these last two weeks of the year that's centered around relational boundaries, and an attunement to the way that our material circumstances impact us internally.

Most of the activity comes late in the evening, so take advantage of the relatively "quiet" start to the day.

Early AM (midnight - 08:00, PST):

(see healing questions from last week)

There are no classical aspects between traditional planets made in the morning. Relatively quiet.

In my notes I wrote "see healing questions last week."

Midday (08:00 - 16:00, PST):

2:37 pm - Mars 11° Gemini sextiles Chiron at 11° Aries.

Prep notes for this week read:

Proactive integration. Lace the wound.

Questions for the Week:

  • Where and how can you defuse or de-escalate nervous energy?
  • How do/can you deflect other's, or rebuild your own relationship with, aggression?
  • How can you demolish old patterns of (in)action?
  • How can you defend yourself against the misuse or abuse of power (your own or others')?

Mars has to do with how we exert ourselves, how we mobilize our will and agency. What Mars does is cut, sever, divide, separate, burn, disrupt, agitate, inflame, incite... you get the idea.

Late PM (16:00 - midnight, PST):

5:21 pm - Moon at 12° Scorpio sextile Venus at 12° Capricorn
5:34 pm - Moon conjunct South Node at 12° Scorpio
7:47 pm - Venus at 12° Capricorn trine North Node at 12° Taurus and sextile South Node at 12° Scorpio
8:32 pm - Moon at 15° Scorpio opposite Uranus at 15° Taurus

With Venus currently ruling the Moon's North Node, there's a double emphasis, in a way, on Venus and the Moon in the evening.

Imagine this:

You're a hero in an RPG and you're on a quest. You encounter two NPCs (that's non-playable characters to the non-gamers other there; kinda like the characters you encounter in a dream).
One of them, pale, androgynous, very round and luminous in a soft reflective kinda way is approaching another NPC. The other one is Femme (whatever their gender may happens to be, or not). They've got a classic yet somewhat severe look and energy to them. They're self-contained, yet clearly receptive to those who respect their boundaries – and time.

The pale round one is clearly experiencing a strong emotion and approaches the self-contained and boundaried femme with Big Feeling Energy.

What do you think happens next?

Monday's More or Less:

If you're gonna make a fresh start it's best not to bring along things that weigh you down, no longer serve you, or are causes of outright harm or distress. Today gives you the opportunity to identify what's best left behind in 2022.

What stories, experiences, and relationships are better able to nourish you as memories vs. parts of your living now?

This song might have said it best:

Tuesday the 20th

Early AM (midnight - 08:00, PST):

3:57 am - the Moon at 18° Scorpio sextiles Mercury at 18° Capricorn
6:32 am - Jupiter leaves Pisces for good, entering the sign of Aries.

It's Go Time!

This post is already long enough, and Jupiter's ingress into Aries deserves it's own moment in the Sun.

If there's a feeling you can't quite let go – that's an important clue too.

Midday (08:00 - 16:00, PST):

8:41 am - the Moon at 21° Scorpio squares Saturn
11:00 am - the Moon at 22° Scorpio trines Neptune at 22° Pisces

Just like Sunday's sextile to Saturn, the Moon's square brings us right back into the stream of discontent and what it can reveal about what matters the most to us. The Moon's trine to Neptune aligns our feeling nature with our imagination.

If your imagination is doing your dirty – playing you movies of your fears and painful memories – see if you're able to identify the unmet needs or the dashed hopes those rancid reveries are revealing.

Perhaps you can identify a few places your heart (or relationships) could experience soothing by getting clear about what hasn't worked in the past.

Airy Jupiter in Aries is Liable to Float Away without a Solid Container

Remember that discontent we talked about last week? And again on Sunday of this week? Well, this square from the Moon to Saturn brings us to the final 'crisis in consciousness' related to this month's beat in the Aqua Saturn story.

Where we often feel restricted by Saturn's slow pace and demands for durability when the Moon is in Scorpio, or just fucking bummed when the Moon transits Leo, the Moon's tangles with Saturn from Scorpio pit our the intensity of our passions, or the sensitivity of our most potent emotions up against Saturn's hard limits.

This is the classic irresistible force and immovable object energy signature.

Late PM (16:00 - midnight, PST):

6:44 pm - The Moon at 27° Scorpio sextiles Pluto at 27° Capricorn
11:12 pm - The Moon enters Sagittarius
11:18 pm - The Moon at 0° Sagittarius trines Jupiter at 0° Aries

A Powerful Surge of Energy

The intensity of the energy surge might make it hard to fall or stay asleep.

Tuesday's TL;DR:

Find constructive outlets for your energy – especially aggression, anger, frustration, impatience. Those aren't inherently bad or wrong things to feel. Though allowing them to run rampant and unchecked may cause you to falter in the implementation of your most cherished visions.

Wednesday the 21st

The Sun enters Capricorn, turning from its most southerly position and heading northward once again. For folks in the Northern hemisphere the light of the day will begin to lengthen, while folks in the Southern hemisphere will experience the shortening of the day.

Early AM (midnight - 08:00, PST):

There are no traditional aspects between classical planets in the morning.

Midday (08:00 - 16:00, PST):

1:48 pm - The Sun enters Capricorn
4:00 pm - The Moon at 10° Sagittarius squares asteroid Vesta at 10° Pisces

The Wheel Turns

The Sun's ingress into Capricorn marks the what I like to think of as the southern or Capricorn Solstice. The Sun takes their most Southerly position and then turns around heading back to toward the North.

Late PM (16:00 - midnight, PST):

4:50 pm - the Sun at 0° Capricorn squares Jupiter at 0° Aries
5:47 pm - the Moon at 11° Sagittarius opposes Mars at 11° Gemini
6:49 pm
- the Moon at 11° Sagittarius trines Chiron at 11° Aries

Emotional Nerve Glides

Once again, the Moon's rapid fire connections from first Mars then to Chiron brings up friction, potentially painful words, truths, or realizations but also the opportunity to experience a return to wholeness by integrating that information.

Kinda like using a needle to push out a deeply embedded splinter. It's not fun. It's not pleasant. But it's kind and compassionate to do because it's ultimately good for you.

Wednesday's Word:

What types of focused relationship with information, words, details, and plans could help you to expand your ability to tolerate discomfort and uncertainty?

Thursday the 22nd

Early AM (midnight - 08:00, PST):

1:47 am - Venus at 15° Capricorn trines Uranus at 15° Taurus

Relational Inventiveness

The tried and true conventional wisdom isn't likely to provide you solutions today. But openness to the weird, unconventional, untested, and radical innovations might just represent a stroke of genius.

Midday (08:00 - 16:00, PST):

10:19 am - the Moon at 21° Sagittarius sextiles Saturn at 21° Aquarius
12:15 pm - the Moon at 22° Sagittarius squares Neptune at 22° Pisces

Strange and Serious Silence.

There's a strange reception afoot. The Moon in Sagittarius cruises through a sign that Marsilio Ficino equates to being a sort of secret term (or bound). He's referring the Moon in signs of short or direct ascension. Saturn's got the third decan of Sagittarius.

The inaugural issue of Myxticism will feature a long form essay exploring the secret relationship between the Moon and Sagittarius.

For now it's enough to know that the Moon/Saturn cycles are really important right now and tie into the Nodes. If you follow the thread through this week (and even last week) you'll see that the Moon's aspects with Saturn alternate between tense activation of the Nodes and Eclipse stories, then integration of our responses to that upheaval with an eye toward long-term enduring sustainable change.

Late PM (16:00 - midnight, PST):

8:47 pm - the Sun joins asteroid Hygeia at 1° Capricorn
11:49 pm - the Moon moves into Capricorn

Merry Yule!

There aren't actually any major aspects between traditional planets in the evening. The Moon's conjunction with asteroid Hygeia should favor hygiene and personal ritual. Which is pretty perfect for on this day between Solstice and the Capricorn New Moon.

Just Jot this for Jupiter's Day:

Out with the old and outworn if you're going to make space to welcome in the new and improved.

Simple enough. Even if simple is rarely easy.

Friday the 23rd

Today is all about fresh starts and getting the wheels in motion.

If you've been feeling like you've been getting no traction or clarity - just deluges of information and inspiration with no clear path or plan and purpose in sight, today is likely to mark a decided shift in that narrative and trajectory.

Early AM (midnight - 08:00, PST):

12:13 am - the Moon at 0° Capricorn squares Jupiter at 0° Aries
1:30 am - Chiron stations direct
2:03 am - the Moon joins asteroid Hygeia at 1° Capricorn
2:16 am -  the Moon becomes new at 1°32' Capricorn.

...in Motion

Potentially another fitful night's sleep – or insomnia. The New Moon will get its own post.

Suffice it to say that the Capricorn New Moon (the second to last with Pluto in Capricorn) presents an opportunity to create a new relationship with and experience of the reality of Capricorn in our lives.

You can think of this as the beginning of the last year of Pluto's School of Cold Capricorn Reality.

Midday (08:00 - 16:00, PST):

The are no any classic aspects between traditional planets.

However Mars, at 10° Gemini, does square asteroid Vesta at 10° Pisces.

Given that this is the first New Moon after the Capricorn Solstice, perhaps we can think of this as an invitation to ritually renew the our hearths. For most of us, that's going to be metaphorical.

Bear's got appeared on a couple of podcasts to talk about Vesta. Visit his Guest Appearances page to check them out.

Late PM (16:00 - midnight, PST):

5:10 pm - the Moon at 10° Capricorn sextiles asteroid Vesta at 10° Pisces
6:42 pm - the Moon at 11° Capricorn squares asteroid Chiron at 11° Aries
7:12 pm - the Moon at 12° Capricorn trines the North Node and sextiles the South Node.

Integrating and Digesting Our Path via Embodied Values

Remember that the Moon's function is to digest. Luna's association with food, nourishment, the body, matter, and mother all have to do with our ability (and need) to take in what is around us in order to build up the stuff that is us.

We need food and water for our bodies to function. We have to chew on the things we hear / learn / think in order to digest them and turn them into thoughts, experiences, feelings...

Venus Votes:

The relationship you cultivate with yourself is the ultimate testing ground for the relationships you have with others. How can you practice receiving what you'd like to experience from others by giving it to yourself?

Saturday the 24th

Early AM (midnight - 08:00, PST):

12:01 am - the Moon at 15° Capricorn trines Uranus at 15° Taurus
4:15 am -  the Moon joins Venus at 17° Capricorn

Busy Dreams

This may make for interesting dreams. Maybe your dreams will give you insights into how you're feeling about significant relationships in your life.

Could be worth keeping a dream journal or notepad near your bed, or wherever you do your waking up process.

Midday (08:00 - 16:00, PST):

11:32 am - the Moon joins Mercury at 22° Capricorn
11:47 am - the Moon sextiles Neptune at 22° Pisces

Clean Up, Edits and Revisions

Did you write or create something back on the 14th? Revisit that work; clean it up with edits and revisions as appropriate.

If you didn't, or that's not your thing, then get clear about what is confusing or unclear currently.

Late PM (16:00 - midnight, PST):

5:16 pm - Mercury at 22° Capricorn sextiles Neptune at 22° Pisces
7:10 pm - the Moon joins Pluto at 27° Capricorn
11:13 pm - the Moon moves into Aquarius
11:56 pm - the Moon at 0° Aquarius sextiles Jupiter at 0° Aries

Dress Rehearsal

The earlier part of the evening has us thinking through our fantasies, or maybe scheming away based on confusion, illusion, or delusion.

If you've been following along and taking up the questions and challenges posed (or implied) in these weekly forecasts, then you're likely zeroing in inconsistencies, logical fallacies, and other errors in imagination or planning. This is all part of the process of refining our methods for enacting our visions. So there's nothing to sweat - just to notice.

The latter part of the evening / middle of the night sees the Moon move into Aquarius and sextile Jupiter. Whereas for the last few months this closing sextile has been about Capricorn/Pisces energies playing out – fantasy and reality hashing it out – now we're working with structured action, or catalyzing long-term initiatives.

This is the journey of 1,000 miles starting with todays one small step signature. We'll only get a handful of these as Jupiter will move through the entire sign of Aries and into Taurus before the Cancer (aka Summer, aka Norther) Solstice.

Saturn's Summary:

Your dreams, your imagination, your daydreams, the strange quotes and lyrics that loop in your head – all of these things can be subtle clues alerting you to where things aren't adding up, or there's room for further investigation.

Just because your mind is wandering doesn't mean that you're hopelessly lost. If you understand the idle mind's information for what it is, you can use it just the same as an "objective fact" so long as you're able to remember which one is what.
